Casa 21

Casa 21 is a Victorian-era house built in 1885 that housed British mining executives in this copper mining town. Five fully furnished rooms contain original furniture and household items that show how mining managers lived during that period.

The house was built in 1885 when the Rio Tinto Company operated major copper mining under British management. When mining declined in the region, the building was preserved and opened as a museum.

The residence shows how British mining managers created their own separate community with European comforts, distinct from local workers. Walking through the rooms makes this social division visible through the luxurious furnishings and exclusive neighborhood location.

The house is open to visitors with guided tours managed by the Fundación Río Tinto foundation. It is best to plan your visit in advance since access is limited to scheduled guided experiences.

The property preserves an original Victorian garden design with a tennis court that introduced the sport to the Spanish mining region. These features show how British residents maintained their European lifestyle far from home.
