Cala Benirràs, Blue Flag beach in Sant Joan de Labritja, Spain
Cala Benirràs is a sandy beach on the northern coast of Ibiza stretching roughly 150 meters, with golden sand mixed with pebbles and backed by pine forests. A distinctive rock formation rises from the water in the center of the bay, creating a natural focal point.
In 1991, the beach became known when anti-war activists organized a drum protest against the Gulf War. This event helped establish the musical tradition that continues there today.
Musicians gather every Sunday evening to play drums as the sun sets, and this regular meeting has become part of the place's identity. Locals and visitors alike return for this informal music tradition that marks the end of the weekend.
The beach has showers, toilets, sun loungers, sunshades, and foot wash facilities to keep visitors comfortable. Watercraft rentals are available on-site, and walking paths through the pine forest lead down to the shoreline.
The rock formation in the bay's center appears to shift its shape depending on where you look at it from different angles along the shore. Visitors often note how their impression of the formation changes as they move around the beach.
