Badalona Museum, Archaeological museum in Badalona, Spain
The Museo de Badalona is an archaeological museum located beneath the modern city, preserving remains of the Roman settlement Baetulo. The excavations reveal ancient streets, thermal baths, and homes that lay buried underground for centuries.
Roman Baetulo became important as a trading and military port after its founding and experienced its greatest growth during the early imperial period. The site was forgotten for centuries until systematic excavations began in the 20th century.
The museum displays objects from different periods of the city, including the Venus of Badalona and an ancient bronze tablet. These finds tell the story of how important this place was to the people who lived here long ago.
The museum is located in the city center and is easily accessible on foot, with most excavations visible at ground level. Good footwear is advisable since the paths through the archaeological sites can be uneven.
Beneath the modern city run two ancient main streets from Roman times, the Cardo and Decumanus, along which visitors can walk between stone shop fronts. This layout follows the classic Roman city plan and offers a rare glimpse into daily life in an ancient trading town.
