Church of la Santísima Trinidad, Gothic church in Plaza Mayor, Alcaraz, Spain
The Church of Santísima Trinidad has three naves with the center one rising above the side aisles, divided into four bays without a transept. This layout creates the typical soaring space found in Gothic design.
Construction finished before 1492, as shown by the Catholic Monarchs' coat of arms in the vault, which lacks the Granada symbol added after their conquest. This dates the completion to the earlier stages of their reign.
The northern facade shows Gothic floral decoration with pinnacles and paired entrances, reflecting how regional builders expressed their style during this period.
Located next to Plaza Mayor and the Torres de la Trinidad city hall, the church remains the only active parish in Alcaraz. Visitors can view it during worship times or contact ahead to arrange access.
Eight original painted panels by master Juan de Borgoña depicting biblical scenes were found hidden under layers of plaster in 2020. These artworks reveal the artistic quality that had remained concealed for centuries.
