Castle of Arnedo

The Castle of Arnedo is a stone fortress situated on a triangular rocky outcrop that rises prominently above the surrounding landscape. The structure spreads across two levels and contains multiple sections built during different construction phases.

Roman defensive structures once stood on this hilltop before Muslim rulers built a new fortress during the 9th century. This transformed fortress was later taken over and further developed by Christian forces.

The fortress displays building styles from different periods in its remaining walls and structures, showing Roman foundations, Muslim construction, and later Christian additions. Visitors can observe these layers of history directly in the stone and design.

Access is provided through guided tours that became available after restoration work on the walls and rock formation. Visitors should expect uneven paths and steep sections, so sturdy footwear and careful footing are recommended.

The fortress once controlled a mountain pass and served as a strategic point between two major regions. Its position made it an important hub for trade and defense across several centuries.
