Cardinal Cisneros founded the Hospital de Nuestra Señora de la Caridad in 1500, with construction completed between 1558 and 1600 under Juan de Vergara's direction.
The main altarpiece features intricate architectural designs with Corinthian columns and Doric moldings, incorporating religious sculptures and decorative elements.
The sanctuary welcomes visitors Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 14:00 and 16:00 to 17:30, with guided tours included in the admission price.
El Greco designed and directed all church decorations between 1603 and 1605, creating an integrated program centered around the miraculous Virgin image.
