Ayuntamiento building, Municipal administration building in Málaga, Spain
The Ayuntamiento is a three-story building in Neobarroque style with richly decorated facades, Corinthian columns, and generous balconies. The main elevation features ornamental stonework and sculptures depicting economic activities of the city.
Construction began in 1911 under Mayor Ricardo Albert and was completed in 1919 by architects Manuel Rivera Vera and Fernando Guerrero Strachan. The project took shape during a period when Málaga was modernizing its urban landscape as an emerging trade center.
The building reflects Málaga's economic importance in the early 1900s through decorations representing different trade sectors. Visitors can notice the craftsmanship of these details in both the facades and interior spaces.
The building sits on Paseo del Parque surrounded by the Pedro Luis Alonso Gardens, making it easily accessible from the street. Visitors can view the exterior architecture and explore the adjacent green spaces.
The building stands on land reclaimed from the sea during the 19th-century port expansion, showing how Málaga expanded from the waterfront. This location serves as a quiet reminder of how the coastal city transformed during its economic growth.
