Casa Don Bosco, Modernist mansion in Ronda, Spain
Casa Don Bosco is a modernist mansion in Ronda featuring a blend of neo-Gothic, Mudejar, and classicist elements in its design. The structure includes rooms decorated with period furnishings, painted tiles, and carved details that reflect the early 1900s aesthetic.
The mansion was originally built around 1850 and remodeled in the early 1900s with new architectural styles. The Salesian congregation took ownership in 1939 and operated it as a sanatorium until closing in 2008.
The rooms showcase regional craftsmanship from the early 20th century, from painted ceramic tiles to carved wooden furnishings made by local artisans. You can see the work of these skilled craftspeople displayed throughout each space.
You enter through the main front of the house and can move through the various rooms at your own pace. The layout is straightforward, and a terrace area provides outdoor space where you can take breaks while exploring.
The house sits at the edge of the Ronda gorge with a terrace that offers views into the valley below. From this elevated position, visitors can see the dramatic landscape and the depth of the canyon.
