Ciudad de los Vascos, Archaeological site in Navalmoralejo, Spain.
Ciudad de los Vascos is an archaeological settlement spanning several hectares with remains of defensive walls, a fortress structure, and two burial grounds nearby. The site displays the physical layout and structures that once formed a thriving medieval community.
The settlement was founded as a fortified Umayyad outpost and remained inhabited for roughly 200 years. Its eventual decline and abandonment reflected broader changes in the region during the medieval period.
The settlement shows traces of Islamic life through discovered gaming pieces and pottery styles that reflect daily habits. Objects left behind tell stories about how people spent their time and organized their communities.
The site can be reached via a dirt track branching off from the main road and is open to visitors at no cost. An onsite interpretation center helps explain what you are looking at and why it matters.
The settlement was a metalworking center that processed ores coming from nearby mountain sources. Tools and implements discovered there show how this craft shaped the economy and daily work of the community.
