Edificios Titanic, Madrid, Historic residential complex in Bellas Vistas district of Madrid, Spain.
The Titanic Buildings are three fifteen-story residential complexes along Reina Victoria Avenue with elaborately designed facades and distinctive chimneys. Together they form a distinctive ensemble in northern Madrid.
A real estate company built these buildings between 1919 and 1921, making them initially Madrid's tallest structures. Only with the Telefónica Building in 1929 did a taller skyscraper appear in the city.
The buildings display American design influences that were new to Madrid at the time and shaped the city's visual identity. The decorated facades clearly show how European and international styles were blended together.
The buildings are located at Reina Victoria Avenue numbers 2, 4, and 6, easily accessible from Cuatro Caminos metro station. From outside you can view the architecture and distinctive chimneys and take photographs.
The name comes from the distinctive chimneys that give the buildings a ship-like appearance reminiscent of the famous passenger vessel. Originally they significantly exceeded Madrid's height limit of 20 meters, rising 35 meters high.
