Maudes Hospital

Maudes Hospital is a former medical facility in Chamberí, Madrid, organized around an octagonal central courtyard with four extending wings. The limestone facades feature ceramic decorative elements that define its overall character.

The facility opened in 1916 to serve day laborers and later operated as a military emergency center during the Spanish Civil War and its aftermath. This medical role ended in 1964, marking a shift toward different uses.

The complex reflects the early 20th-century commitment to healthcare access for ordinary working people, shaped by architects who left their mark on Madrid's built landscape. Its design remains a reminder of how public institutions can blend function with thoughtful architectural form.
