Torre Titania, Skyscraper in Cuatro Caminos, Spain
Torre Titania is a modern skyscraper in the Cuatro Caminos business district that rises over 100 meters and shapes Madrid's skyline. The building blends office spaces with retail areas and contributes to the mixed character of this urban neighborhood.
The building arose as a replacement for Torre Windsor, which was destroyed by fire in 2005 and prompted a complete redesign of the site. Its completion in 2013 marked the end of a major urban redevelopment project in the business district.
The tower is popularly called "nuevo Windsor" because it stands on the plot of the former Torre Windsor, destroyed by fire in 2005. Its first seven floors hold El Corte Inglés department store space, and since December 2016 the consultancy EY has occupied 11 floors for around 2,000 professionals, with a backlit corporate logo on the crown.
Torre Titania stands on the north side of Calle Raimundo Fernández Villaverde, opposite Nuevos Ministerios station and a short walk from the Paseo de la Castellana. The first seven floors hold El Corte Inglés stores, reached from the street-level entrance beneath the projecting glass and steel canopy. The tower is offset from the footprint of the former Windsor building, so the underground car park below it was widened and its supports reinforced.
The tower stands slightly offset from the footprint of the old Windsor Tower, so the foundations were widened and the supports in the existing underground car park levels were reinforced to carry the new structure. The structural frame was designed by the engineer José Ignacio Viñals, with a reinforced concrete core against wind loads.
