Tetuán, Administrative district in northern Madrid, Spain
Tetuán is an administrative district in northern Madrid comprising six neighborhoods that form a mixed residential and commercial area. The western sections feature traditional low-rise apartment buildings, while the eastern side includes modern office towers and business complexes.
The name comes from a military camp established after the African War of 1859-1860, referring to the Moroccan city of Tétouan. The area later developed into a residential neighborhood with a long history as part of Madrid's expansion.
The neighborhood has a diverse population that has grown over decades, with communities from different backgrounds living and working alongside each other in the residential streets and local shops.
The district is well connected by public transportation and offers a mix of residential buildings and local shops throughout its neighborhoods. Visitors should explore both the eastern business area and western residential sections to experience the area's contrasting character.
The eastern section houses the AZCA business district with modern skyscrapers that contrasts sharply with the traditional western neighborhoods. This split character makes the area a good place to see how Madrid changed from a compact city to a modern metropolis.
