Ermita del Cristo del Llano, Baroque hermitage in Baños de la Encina, Spain
The Ermita del Cristo del Llano is a baroque hermitage with red stone walls, a central spire, and three exterior facades marked by a main entrance with a rounded arch. The structure combines baroque architectural features with a compact religious design.
The hermitage was built in the late 1600s and received its most significant addition in 1744 when a baroque chamber was constructed by Francisco Javier de Pedrajas. This expansion gave the building much of its current appearance.
Religious paintings inside depict scenes from the Virgin Mary's life, while the dome shows representations of the Evangelists and scenes of Christ's passion.
The hermitage is easily accessible on foot, as it sits near the town center of Baños de la Encina. Checking with the local tourist office beforehand helps ensure you have current opening information and can arrange guided visits if desired.
The chamber added in 1744 features elaborate polychrome plasterwork with mirrors and representations of exotic birds adorning the walls and vaulted ceiling. This ornate decoration with vine motifs and plant designs stands out distinctly from the rest of the religious structure.
