Equestrian statue of Charles III of Spain, Bronze equestrian monument at Puerta del Sol, Madrid, Spain
The bronze sculpture shows Charles III mounted on a horse in a commanding position at the center of the historic square.
Three Spanish artists created this statue in 1994 as a replica of an 18th-century work by Juan Pascual de Mena.
The monument represents King Charles III, who modernized Madrid through urban development and scientific advancement during his reign from 1759 to 1788.
The statue occupies a central position in Puerta del Sol square, making it a reference point for navigation through downtown Madrid.
Sound-emitting sensors were installed in 2000 to prevent pigeons from damaging the bronze surface of the monument.
