Church of Santa Ana

The Church of Santa Ana is a Catholic place of worship with a six-story white bell tower accented in dark tones in Garachico. The interior divides into three sections with columns and arches, and carved wooden elements shape the spaces.

Construction started in 1520 under Cristobal de Ponte, who named the building after his wife Ana de Vergara. The choir section was completed between 1532 and 1542, marking an important phase in its building history.

The wooden ceiling shows Mudejar influences that reflect building traditions from medieval times in this region. These details reveal how different architectural styles mixed together in this building.

The church sits near Plaza de la Libertad and is easy to reach on foot. Visitors should check regular opening times and remember that services take priority over tours.

Inside is a Christ figure made from corn marrow by Mexican artisans, showing remarkable craftsmanship. Next to it stands a marble baptismal font from centuries ago that came from a completely different part of the world.
