Parque del Drago, Botanical park in Icod de los Vinos, Spain
Parque del Drago is a botanical park covering three hectares and centered around the ancient Dragon Tree called Drago Milenario. The grounds are planted with many native species from the Canary Islands that form a green setting around this central tree.
The park was established in 1997 to protect an over 800-year-old Dragon Tree, reflecting the long natural history of the island. This tree is among the oldest known examples of its species in the region.
A cave within the grounds displays burial practices and objects from the Guanche people, the original inhabitants of the Canary Islands. These items tell the story of how the island's first residents lived and connected with their environment.
The park is open daily with extended hours during warmer months and shorter hours in winter. Visitors can walk through the grounds easily and should plan their visit based on the season.
On the grounds stand remains of an old winery and a coal storage bunker that show the farming history of northern Tenerife. These structures document how people once worked with the natural resources of the region.
