Church of Santa María de la Horta, Zamora

The Church of Santa María de la Horta features a single rectangular nave divided into three sections leading to a semicircular apse and stone tower.

The Knights Hospitaller of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem owned this religious building until 1537, when it transferred to the nuns of the same order.

The capitals and archivolts display intricate carvings of lions, plants, birds, and other figures, representing medieval artistic expressions of the 12th and 13th centuries.

The church opens its doors from October through March on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, with extended hours during the summer months of July through September.

The structure contains 866 stonemason marks comprising 244 different types, dating from the 12th and 13th centuries, documenting the construction methods of medieval craftsmen.
