Iglesia de Santo Domingo de Silos, Parish church in Pinto, Spain.
The iglesia de Santo Domingo de Silos is a parish church with three naves separated by rounded arches decorated with geometric patterns and cross-vaulted ceilings. The interior spaces flow together, showing how the building grew and changed over centuries.
The church is first documented in 1363 and transformed from Romanesque to Gothic style through expansions built between the 15th and 17th centuries. These architectural changes reflect the evolving needs and prosperity of the local community during those periods.
The parish is home to several active brotherhoods, including the Brotherhood of Christ Bound and the Brotherhood of Our Lady of Sorrows, which continue to shape local religious life.
The church reopened for worship in May 2021 after extensive interior restoration work completed in 2017. The building is easily accessible on foot from the center of Pinto.
In 1808 French soldiers plundered the church, prompting local residents to file formal declarations with city authorities about what was taken. These recorded accounts remain one of the few surviving local documents from that turbulent period.
