Hospital de la Caridad

The Hospital de la Caridad is a two-story building on Plaza del Potro combining Late Gothic and Renaissance styles, with a stone facade and a simple single-nave church. Inside, a preserved historical staircase connects the exhibition rooms across both levels.

The Brotherhood of Holy Charity founded this hospital in 1493 with backing from the Catholic Monarchs, who helped establish it as an important institution. Gradual expansions over the following decades shaped the building into the structure visitors see today.

The building now houses the Museum of Fine Arts, displaying religious paintings that once belonged to the chapel. These works show how faith shaped daily life and worship in that era.

Entry is through the main portal facing Plaza del Potro in central Córdoba. The building is easy to navigate between its two floors using the well-maintained historical staircase that connects all exhibition areas.

The entrance portal displays a rare architectural feature where Gothic stonework and Renaissance additions stand side by side. This visible blend at the doorway tells the story of how the building evolved over time.
