Puente de la Unión, Road bridge over Ebro River in Zaragoza, Spain.
The Puente de la Unión is a road bridge crossing the Ebro River, consisting of two parallel structures each spanning about 330 meters. The twin structures are organized with separate traffic lanes moving in opposite directions.
Construction of the bridge began in 1987 as part of urban development plans to extend Torres Road eastward across the river. This project was a key infrastructure addition to the city's network.
Engineer José Antonio Torroja designed this bridge as part of Zaragoza's infrastructure modernization, connecting Las Fuentes and La Jota districts.
The bridge connects northern and southern areas while reducing congestion in the historic center. It functions as part of the outer ring road system that allows faster passage across the city.
The structure employs a cantilever design where the deck does not rest on the riverbed itself. This engineering method was innovative for river bridges in the city at that time.
