Lantern of La Seo, Lantern tower at Cathedral of the Savior, Zaragoza, Spain
The octagonal lantern tower features two brick levels with geometric Mudejar patterns and Gothic windows that illuminate the cathedral presbytery from above.
The current lantern tower, completed in 1520 under Juan de Sisuar's direction, represents the third structure after two previous versions collapsed in 1403 and 1417.
The lantern tower combines Gothic, Mudejar, and Renaissance elements, with wooden keys decorated in gold and sculptures of Latin Church Fathers and Evangelists.
The lantern tower allows natural light to enter the central area of the cathedral through its carefully designed windows and architectural openings.
Eight diagonal crossed arches form an eight-pointed star pattern at the base of the lantern, supporting the upper octagonal structure.
