Solans House, Art Nouveau palace in El Rabal, Zaragoza, Spain.
Solans House is an Art Nouveau building in El Rabal with three floors and decorative tile panels adorning its western facade. The interior contains an oratory, formal rooms, service areas, and terraces on the upper level, with zodiac signs featured prominently in the tile design.
The building was constructed between 1918 and 1921 under architect Miguel Ángel Navarro Pérez for industrialist Juan Solans, who died before the work was finished. It later received cultural heritage protection in 2002, which saved it from demolition after decades of neglect.
The building is known locally as Casa de los Azulejos because of its striking colorful tile decorations. This nickname reflects how residents identify the house by its most distinctive visual feature.
The house is located at Avenida de Cataluña 60 and can be viewed from the street to appreciate its tile facade and architectural details. Extensive restoration work was completed in 2006, ensuring the building is in good condition.
The upper level features multiple terraces that provided private outdoor space for residents in an arrangement that was generous for its time. These terraces added a layer of comfort to the residence that many contemporary buildings lacked.
