The monument was inaugurated on November 15, 1923, initially placed at the intersection of Gran Capitan Avenue and Ronda de los Tejares.
The statue honors Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba, a military commander who led successful campaigns in Granada and Italy for the Catholic Monarchs.
Located in Plaza de las Tendillas, visitors can reach the monument by walking from the historic center or using public transportation to central Córdoba.
The head of the statue was modeled after an organist from the San Nicolas de la Villa church, contradicting local myths about a bullfighter connection.
