Plaza de las Tendillas, Public square in central Córdoba, Spain
Plaza de las Tendillas is a public square in central Córdoba with a central fountain that has thirty-two water streams. Circular and square pillars frame the space, which also features an equestrian statue.
During the 1920s the square underwent a major redesign when the old Hotel Suizo was torn down. The buildings constructed at that time still shape the appearance of the space today.
The clock on the square chimes each hour with flamenco guitar chords instead of traditional bells, connecting the space to Andalusian musical traditions. Locals use the square as a meeting point and starting place for walks through the old quarter.
The square sits centrally and can be reached from most neighborhoods in a few minutes. Several bus lines stop here, and many cafes and restaurants with regional and international food line the edges.
On New Year's Eve thousands gather at the square to eat twelve grapes to the sound of the clock's guitar chimes. This custom combines a Spanish tradition with the musical character of the space.
