Pasarela del Bicentenario, puente peatonal en Zaragoza
Pasarela del Bicentenario is a pedestrian and bicycle bridge that crosses the Ebro River, connecting La Cartuja Baja with La Alfranca. The structure features a series of metal helices that form a tube-like shape, giving it a modern and innovative appearance.
The bridge opened in 2008 as part of the International Exposition held in Zaragoza that year. It was designed by professor Luis Javier Sanz Balduz to improve connections across the city and create new pathways for visitors and residents.
The bridge carries a name tied to 200 years of local history and community memory. Visitors and locals use it daily as a place to exercise and connect with nature while reflecting on their city's past.
Access is straightforward via the Camino Natural de la Alfranca trail, which begins at Paseo de Echegaray y Caballero. The walkway is flat and suitable for both pedestrians and cyclists, especially during calm mornings or quiet afternoons.
The bridge features an unusual spiral-shaped design made of metal helices that sets it apart from typical bridge structures. This innovative form was part of the 2008 Expo and makes it an architecturally interesting landmark in the cityscape.
