Pico del Lobo

Pico del Lobo is a prominent summit in the Sierra de Ayllón mountain range located at the border between Guadalajara and Segovia provinces. The peak displays steep rocky faces and contrasting sides: the north features developed slopes while the south remains untouched and rugged.

A ski resort called La Pinilla was built at this location in the late 1960s, serving as an important alternative to other regional ski stations. The mountain also held strategic military significance, a role that lasted until the early 2000s.

Locals call this peak the 'Manchego Everest' and it holds special meaning for people in the surrounding valleys. The mountain serves as a landmark that defines the landscape and connects communities to their regional identity.

The main approach to the summit follows hiking trails that begin on the northern slopes and lead toward the geodetic vertex marking the peak. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear and be prepared for sudden weather changes that are common at this elevation.

The peak preserves rare glacial formations including cirques and moraines left behind from the last ice age. These geological features reveal how dramatically different the climate was long ago and make the landscape a window into Earth's distant past.
