Serranía de Cuenca Natural Park, Protected natural area in Cuenca Province, Spain.
Description
Serranía de Cuenca Natural Park is a large protected area with limestone plateaus, deep gorges, and vast pine forests in central Spain. The terrain includes high plains cut by deep valleys that offer many trails for walking and exploring.
History
The limestone formations took shape during the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods millions of years ago, creating a complex underground system. These ancient rock layers remain the foundation of how the park looks today.
Culture
Small villages within the park keep old ways of building and farming that connect directly to the surrounding forest and meadows. You can see how local people live closely with the land and maintain these customs today.
Practical
Information centers in Uña, Tragacete, and Valdemeca offer maps and details about walking routes and wildlife. Bring sturdy shoes and water since trails go through hilly terrain and shade can be limited in some spots.
Did you know?
The park is home to many raptors like golden eagles, griffon vultures, and eagle owls that nest and breed in the limestone cliffs. This bird community thrives here because of the high cliffs and the lack of human disturbance.
