Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de Las Caldas, Religious monument in Las Caldas de Besaya, Spain.
The Sanctuary is a religious building with a Latin cross layout, a broad nave, and side chapels set between buttresses. The north side features a simple portal that characterizes the exterior appearance.
Dominican friars from Regina Coeli monastery in Santillana del Mar took over the original chapel in 1605 and established an independent convent by 1611. This founding marked the start of the site's development into a religious center.
The cloister displays a remarkable collection of baroque paintings from 1733 showing scenes from Saint Dominic's life across its four sides. These artworks tell religious stories and shape the artistic character of the place.
The site sits near the Las Caldas bus station and is surrounded by accommodations and thermal baths. It can be easily reached and offers visitor facilities in the immediate surroundings.
The main altar houses a 14th-century Gothic image of Nuestra Señora de Las Caldas within an ornate walnut wood structure. This artwork was designed by Master Fray Alessandro and represents a notable example of medieval carving.
