Umbe, Summit in Lauquíniz, Bizkaia, Spain

Umbe is a 302-metre summit in the Lauquíniz municipality of Bizkaia, separating the Goyerri district from the Butrón valley. Its top is fully urbanised: chalets of the private Unbe-Mendi development stand a few metres from the summit mailbox. The usual ascent starts from the Akarlanda flats, a recreational area southeast of the peak, and is very gentle.

The reported apparitions began in 1941, when Felisa Sistiaga said she saw the Virgin Mary at her house on Monte Umbe. In 1968 she reported an apparition of Saint Peter, and in March 1969 the Virgin again; from then the nearby well's water was said to heal. The last apparition was reported in 1988, and Felisa died in 1990. The Catholic Church has never recognised these apparitions.

The mountain is known for the reported apparitions of the Virgin Mary to Felisa Sistiaga, beginning in 1941 at her farmhouse on the slope. Pilgrims from across Spain come to collect water from the spring beside the house, believed to have healing properties. The Catholic Church has never recognised these apparitions.

The usual ascent starts from the open fields of Akarlanda, southeast of the summit, and is very gentle. The top is fully urbanised: chalets of the private Unbe-Mendi development stand a few metres from the summit mailbox. From the Alto de Umbe road junction at 167 m, the road descends towards Urdúliz.

From the summit, visitors can see both the Cantabrian Sea coastline and the inland mountains on clear mornings. This dual perspective makes the location particularly valuable for nature observers.
