Torre del Aire is a late medieval fortified structure located in central Salamanca. The building displays characteristic defensive architecture from that period, with remaining elements showing how it was designed to protect and command the surrounding area.
Construction began in 1440 under the Fermoselle family during a period of local noble conflicts. The ownership changed hands over centuries, and the structure underwent significant transformation before becoming an educational residence in the 1800s.
The structure transitioned to housing Irish scholars starting in 1818 and continues as a student residence today. This educational purpose has shaped how the building fits into the local community.
The site sits about five minutes from Plaza Mayor and is easy to reach via Plaza de Santa Eulalia in the central district. Visitors can combine a visit with other nearby historic sites in the area.
The building once contained four defensive towers that gave it the name Palacio de las Cuatro Torres. Today only one tower remains standing, a visible reminder of how the structure has changed over time.
