Castell de Sant Ferran, Military fort on Monte Tossal, Alicante, Spain
The San Fernando Castle features two bastions connected by broken walls, adapting to the hill's topography with geometric and rounded defensive structures.
The fortification was constructed between 1808 and 1812 during the Peninsular War under military engineer Pablo Ordovás to strengthen defenses against French forces.
The castle incorporates early 19th-century military engineering principles with thick defensive walls, storage areas, and barracks for troops stationed in Alicante.
Located at the summit of Monte Tossal, the fortress includes three entrances, with the main access connecting to downtown Alicante through a zigzag ramp.
The castle contains underground vaults designed to resist artillery fire and a water cistern system built beneath its earthen ramparts.
