Castle of Villafuerte de Esgueva

The Castle of Villafuerte de Esgueva is a medieval fortress with a square layout and three round towers, crowned by a taller keep. The five-story keep dominates the structure, and a barbican fortification strengthens the defensive capability at the front.

The fortress was founded around 1470 by the Franco de Toledo family, converted Jews from Toledo who gained control of the territory. This founding drive shaped the structure and character that remain visible today.

The coat of arms displayed above the main entrance shows symbols of several noble families connected to the castle. These markings tell of the power relationships and connections that shaped the region for generations.

Access is managed by an association dedicated to Spanish castles, which provides visitors with a museum in the keep to explore. The opportunity to climb to the roof offers a complete view of the structure and surrounding landscape.

The outer walls and towers still show their original form, even though villagers extracted stones for other construction over many centuries. This fact demonstrates how robust the construction remained despite such wear and human intervention.
