Sant Bartomeu i Santa Tecla de Sitges, Baroque church on Mediterranean coast in Sitges, Spain.
Sant Bartomeu i Santa Tecla is a baroque church on the Mediterranean coast of Sitges, defined by three interior naves with barrel vaults and ribbed supports. Two bell towers rise distinctly above the structure, visible from the seafront.
The current building rose from 1665 onward, built on the remains of a Gothic church destroyed during the 1649 bombardments. This baroque reconstruction marked the community's recovery after the destruction.
The church is dedicated to Saint Bartholomew and Saint Tecla, two figures central to the local community's religious identity. Their names and images appear throughout the building and shape how people here connect with this place.
The church is open for visitors to explore its interior and admire the architectural details throughout the day. Evening services are held regularly, offering another opportunity to experience the space in a different setting.
Beneath the choir rest two Gothic tombs from the early 14th century holding the remains of medieval leaders from the area. These tombs stand as quiet reminders of the place's history before the baroque reconstruction.
