Orfenat Ribas, Modernist school building in Sant Genís dels Agudells, Spain
The Orfenat Ribas is a school building in Catalan modernist style located in Sant Genís dels Agudells, built between 1920 and 1930. The complex consists of four pavilions arranged symmetrically around a central chapel with ornamental terracotta details on its facade.
The school was founded by the Ribas Regordosa brothers, textile industrialists, to educate workers' children during the early 20th century. The complex later became known as IES Vall d'Hebron and continues its educational mission today.
The terracotta ornaments on the chapel facade reflect the craft traditions valued during its construction period. These decorative elements show how architecture expressed the aesthetic interests of that era.
The building continues to function as an active secondary school and is best viewed from outside during non-school hours. The site is located at Pg. Vall d'Hebron, 93-101 and is easily reached by public transport.
The former chapel has been transformed into a library, repurposing a historic religious space for contemporary educational needs. This adaptation demonstrates how the building has evolved while retaining its original architectural framework.
