Turó de la Creueta del Coll, Mountain summit in El Coll district, Barcelona, Spain
Turó de la Creueta del Coll is a mountain rising about 245 meters near Barcelona, with steep granite walls created by former quarrying work. These rocky faces form the mountain's distinctive character today.
The mountain operated as a granite quarry until 1987, when architects redesigned it as a public park. This transformation rescued the site from neglect and opened it to the neighborhood.
The mountain takes its name from a cross placed here by residents, shaping how locals view and use this site. The area has transformed into a neighborhood gathering place where people come for recreation and fresh air.
You can reach the mountain from several entrances, mainly around Passeig Mare de Déu del Coll and Carrer Castellterçol. Paths are clearly marked and lead upward to a lake with a public swimming area that opens in summer.
A striking concrete sculpture by artist Eduardo Chillida titled Elogio del Agua hangs above the lake, becoming an iconic feature of the site. This artwork was created specifically for this location and draws visitors who come to view and photograph it.
