Parc del Carmel, Urban park in Horta-Guinardó district, Barcelona, Spain.
Parc del Carmel is an urban park situated on a hilltop at 256 meters elevation with walking paths and multiple viewpoints throughout the grounds. From these higher vantage points, visitors look out over Barcelona and the surrounding neighborhoods.
The area was a rural landscape with scattered farmhouses in the early 1800s before becoming an official park in 1989. This transformation centered on the Sanctuary of Nostra Senyora del Carmel, which remains present within the park today.
An art installation titled 'El orden de hoy es el desorden de mañana' by Ian Hamilton Finlay from 1999 consists of fourteen stone blocks scattered throughout the green space. Visitors encounter this conceptual work while strolling along the pathways and discovering different parts of the park.
Visitors can enter through the Carretera del Carmelo entrance, where the Juan Ponce Gardens mark the start of the recreational areas. The higher sections of the park require some climbing effort, so appropriate footwear is recommended for exploring the pathways.
The park sits adjacent to Park Güell but is separated by Can Móra road, which serves as a boundary between the Horta-Guinardó and Gràcia districts. This proximity to a more well-known park makes it accessible yet frequently overlooked by visitors.
