Elogio del agua, Public art sculpture in Parc de la Creueta del Coll, Spain.
Elogio del agua is a concrete sculpture suspended by steel cables above a water basin in Creueta Park, weighing about 54 tonnes. The form features four elongated arms with curved undersides that face toward the water, creating an interplay between straight lines and curved surfaces.
The work was installed in 1987 at a former quarry site that was later transformed into a public park. Its placement coincided with Barcelona's preparation for the 1992 Olympic Games.
The work's title reflects the relationship between water and art that visitors experience as they walk around the hanging form suspended above the lake. The arrangement of the arms creates tension between the heavy mass above and its reflection below.
The park remains open year-round during standard daylight hours, allowing visitors to view the sculpture from multiple angles. Wear sturdy shoes as the ground around the water basin can be uneven.
The construction fell from its steel cables in 1998, surprisingly sustaining only minimal damage from the impact. This incident led to enhanced safety measures and improvements throughout the park.
