Church of San Pedro de la Rúa, Estella

San Pedro de la Rúa is a Romanesque church in Estella with three naves and an external cloister featuring covered galleries. Stone capitals throughout the building display religious scenes and nature motifs characteristic of medieval craftsmanship.

The church was founded in the 12th century as Estella's first house of worship and retains its original core structure today. Gothic and Baroque additions were incorporated over later centuries, reflecting the architectural shifts of those periods.

The building contains religious art from different periods, including a Gothic crucifix from the 14th century and a Romanesque Virgin Mary sculpture. These pieces show the spiritual expressions that pilgrims and visitors have valued over the centuries.

The building sits in central Estella and is easily reached on foot. Visitors should check opening hours in advance, as they vary depending on the season and religious events held throughout the year.

The cloister displays two complete wings filled with detailed stone carvings showing everyday medieval life. The remaining two sides vanished when a neighboring fortress was demolished centuries ago.
