Museo del Carlismo de Estella

The Carlism Museum sits inside a former Governor's Palace and displays weapons, uniforms, documents, and artworks spread across three exhibition levels. The building itself is part of a UNESCO World Heritage site and stands among the city's most notable structures.

The movement started in 1833 when supporters of Don Carlos challenged the Spanish throne succession after King Ferdinand VII died. The conflict lasted for decades and shaped Spanish political history deeply.

The collection displays paintings and personal objects that show how people lived during the 19th century conflicts. Visitors can see how deeply this movement shaped the thinking and daily choices of society.

The museum shares its space with other exhibitions in the same building, so it helps to check ahead which areas are accessible. Visiting requires moderate mobility due to stairs connecting the levels.

Among the collection is a ceremonial sword given to Jaime III by the Duke of Solferino, with diamonds on its sheath forming a Spanish motto. This piece shows the international ties this movement maintained with European noble circles.
