Tinença de Benifassà Natural Pak, Natural park in Baix Maestrat, Spain.
Tinença de Benifassà is the northernmost nature park in the Valencia region and covers a large mountainous expanse with steep slopes and complex terrain. The landscape includes different elevations and vegetation zones shaped by the irregular hills and rocky ridges throughout the area.
The area was owned and managed by Benifassà monastery for centuries until it received official protected status in 2006. This change transformed how the land was governed and preserved.
Seven villages nestled within the park maintain traditional rural practices that shape how the landscape is used and managed. Visitors walking through these settlements encounter old stone houses and local crafts that reflect centuries of mountain living.
The visitor center provides information about hiking routes, bird watching points, and recreation areas scattered throughout the reserve. Early morning or late afternoon visits work best for observing wildlife and enjoying cooler temperatures while exploring the terrain.
The park protects small reserves dedicated to rare plants including butterwort and sandwort that grow nowhere else in the Valencia region. Spotting these botanical rarities takes patience and careful observation, but the diversity rewards visitors with an unexpected botanical dimension.
