Higer lighthouse

The white square tower of Higuer lighthouse reaches 21 meters in height and features an octagonal section with a red-painted lantern and glass dome.

The lighthouse began operations in 1881 after its construction by architect Francisco Lafarga, replacing a previous structure destroyed during the Third Carlist War.

The lighthouse marks the starting point of maritime navigation between Spain and France, serving as a guide for local fishing vessels in the Bay of Biscay.

The lighthouse emits two white flashes every 10 seconds with a range of 23 nautical miles, making it visible to ships approaching from the Atlantic Ocean.

This easternmost lighthouse on the Spanish Atlantic coast serves as the beginning of the GR11 trail, which extends 820 kilometers to Cap de Creus.
