Fervenza do Ézaro, Waterfall in Galicia, Spain
Fervenza do Ézaro is a waterfall cascade where the Xallas River drops about 40 meters directly into the Atlantic Ocean near Dumbría. The site features wooden walkways and several viewing platforms that offer different perspectives of the water and surrounding cliffs.
The waterfall remained dormant for much of the 20th century because of a hydroelectric dam upstream. Environmental regulations brought the natural flow back to life in 2011.
Local legends and myths surround this waterfall, passed down through generations among residents. These stories shape how people experience and understand the place today.
You can reach several viewing platforms via wooden walkways from the parking area, with the complete loop taking about 45 minutes. Wear sturdy shoes because the paths get wet and slippery, especially when water flow is heavy.
This is the only waterfall in continental Europe where a river flows directly into the sea without forming a river delta. This rarity makes it a geological oddity you won't find elsewhere on the continent.
