Castillo del Príncipe, Military fortress in Cee, Spain
Castillo del Príncipe is a military fortress in Cee on the Galician coast with twelve artillery towers oriented toward sea defense. The complex features stone walls, staircases to the battlements, and a moat surrounding the fortification.
Construction began in 1740 under Francisco Llobet's direction and finished in 1755, reflecting Spain's coastal defense strategy in that era. The fortress was dedicated to the future King Carlos IV as recognition of his role in the kingdom.
The fortress takes its name from the future King Carlos IV and served as a vital military post on the Spanish coast. Visitors can observe how the towers and stone construction reflect the site's importance for coastal defense.
The fortress is private property and visits must be arranged in advance through scheduled appointments. Check access conditions before traveling, as entry may be limited depending on the owner's availability.
The fortress was built with complete internal facilities including quarters and supply services for around 88 soldiers, making it largely self-sufficient. The carefully constructed bridge and moat added another layer of defensive design that visitors can still observe today.
