City walls of Córdoba

The city walls extend for 2650 meters around the ancient district of Córdoba, featuring semicircular towers and dual-wall construction with rubble filling.

Romans constructed these fortifications in 206 BC after gaining control of the settlement, with later modifications during Augustus reign to accommodate city expansion.

The walls represent different architectural periods, combining Roman foundations with medieval Moorish additions that reflect the city's multicultural development through centuries.

Visitors can examine preserved sections near the Alcázar, Roman Bridge, and along Avenida de la Ribera, with informative panels explaining construction techniques.

The defensive structure contains an internal passage measuring 6 meters wide between its outer 3-meter and inner 1.2-meter high stone walls.
