Palacio de Amboage is a three-story mansion occupying an entire block between Lagasca, Juan Bravo, Velazquez, and Padilla streets. The building displays French Baroque architectural features with ornate details and provides access from multiple street-level entrances.
Fernando Pla Peñalver commissioned the construction of this mansion in 1914, with architect Joaquín Rojí completing it in 1917. The Italian government purchased the property in 1939, fundamentally changing its purpose and role in Madrid's diplomatic landscape.
The Italian government acquired the residence in 1939 and uses it as the country's embassy today. It serves as a venue for diplomatic meetings and cultural events that connect the Italian community with Madrid's society.
The building can be accessed from multiple entrances at Lagasca Street 98, Juan Bravo Street 14, Padilla Street 13, and Velazquez Street 77-79. The central location in Castellana makes it easy to reach by public transport, and parking is available on surrounding streets.
The building received Madrid City Council's first prize in 1918 for excellence in private residential construction within the individual hotel category. This award recognized its architectural quality and important contribution to the city's early twentieth-century development.
