Marismas del Odiel

The Odiel Marshes extend across 7,185 hectares at the confluence of Tinto and Odiel rivers, forming extensive wetlands with salt marshes and tidal flats.

The designation as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1983 marked the formal recognition of these wetlands for their environmental importance and conservation needs.

Local communities maintain traditional practices of salt harvesting and sustainable fishing methods that have shaped the interaction between humans and this natural space.

The Anastasio Sierra Visitor Centre provides information about walking trails, bird observation points, and guided tours throughout the protected natural area.

This wetland hosts thirty percent of Europe's spoonbill population and serves as a critical stopover for over 200 bird species during migration periods.
