Casa Quintero Báez, Residential building in Huelva, Spain
Casa Quintero Báez is a three-story residential building with an eclectic and modernist facade located on Calle del Puerto in central Huelva. The front elevation features mixed architectural influences and decorative details that reflect the wealth of the original owner.
The building was constructed in 1916 by architects Gonzalo Aguado and José María Pérez Carasa for Juan Quintero Báez, who served as mayor at that time. Its construction coincided with the city's period of economic strength driven by the mining industry.
The building shows the taste of wealthy families who lived through the mining boom in early 20th century Huelva. Such grand homes became a way for successful business owners to display their status and connection to modern ideas.
The building is located at Calle del Puerto 37 in the city center and is easy to reach on foot. Today it serves as headquarters for the Architects Association of Western Andalusia and can only be viewed from the street.
The owner gave the building the nickname 'Casa del Millón' because of its exceptionally high construction costs for that early period. The expense was so remarkable that it became a topic of conversation around town for years afterward.
