Palacio de Fomento, Palace at Paseo de la Infanta Isabel, Madrid, Spain
The Palacio de Fomento is a palace located along Paseo de la Infanta Isabel, distinguished by eight paired Corinthian columns adorning its main facade. Two interior courtyards within the building feature iron frameworks topped with glass roofs.
Construction of the building took place in 1897 on land formerly occupied by the Botanical Garden, initially serving as headquarters for the Ministry of Public Works. The institution shifted its purpose to house the Ministry of Agriculture starting in 1931.
The building displays marble sculptures titled 'La Gloria y los Pegasos' by Agustí Querol Subirats, representing Glory, Arts, and Sciences through winged figures.
The interior can be visited through guided tours available on weekends at midday, though advance booking is necessary to participate. Each tour lasts around 50 minutes and covers the main areas inside.
The palace's construction prompted the creation of Cuesta de Moyano, a new street designed to separate the building from the Botanical Garden next to it. Today this street is known for its outdoor book stalls and small antique shops.
