Sagrat Cor de Jesus, Monument in Ibiza Town, Spain
The Sacred Heart of Jesus statue stands 23 meters tall on a knoll north of Ibiza Town, overlooking the Mediterranean landscape.
Architect Guillermo Moragues designed the monument, which was completed in 1947 under the direction of Antonio Cardona Riera, future Bishop of Ibiza.
The statue reflects Catholic devotion on the island, with its design drawing inspiration from the Christ statue in Rio de Janeiro.
Visitors reach the monument by following the EI-600 road from Ibiza Town toward Sant Antoni, turning right at the industrial zone after the supermarket.
The monument commemorates local residents who protected Antonio Cardona Riera during persecution in the Spanish Civil War of 1936.
